When God Brought the Hummingbirds to Her

My mom loved hummingbirds. ❤️
After she had her stroke, she told me one of the hardest things was losing those little pieces of independence. Just being able to run to the store because she wanted or needed one little thing.
I am a lot like my mom. Neither one of us was ever very good at sitting still. 😂 I’m a little better at it now than she ever was.
But after her stroke, she had to.
Every year, a hummingbird would build a nest right outside her sliding glass door, tucked up in the corner where she could see it. My mom would sit for hours watching that tiny nest being built. Then she’d watch the babies hatch, grow, and finally fly away.
I remember how sad she was when they left.
But the next year, they would come back. ❤️
My sister and I always felt like that was a little glimpse of grace sent from God. When our mom couldn’t go out and do all the things she once could, God brought something beautiful to her, just outside her window.
And all these years later, my sister and I both have hummingbird feeders. We watch them, count them, and even name the ones that keep coming back. 😂
Every once in a while, one will fly right up under my front porch and hover in front of me. Sometimes it stays there just a little longer than I would expect.
And there have been hard mornings when I open the blinds and the first thing I see is a hummingbird at the feeder.
My sister says seeing a hummingbird makes her feel like everything is going to be okay.
I think so too. ❤️
Not because a hummingbird promises that.
Because God does.
Sometimes God’s gifts don’t change the hard thing we’re walking through. Sometimes they simply remind us that He is still there, still good, and still close enough to bring something beautiful right outside our window.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above.”
